Nora was born 1880 in Devon, her maiden name was Witchell and she married Stephen Gunn in 1904, in 1911 she was living in West Ham, Essex. In 1940 she lived with her husband Stephen at 119 Hindle House, Arcola Street Hackney London. Nora died when Hindle House was hit by a high explosive incendiary bomb on Wednesday 18th September 1940 at 21.00 hours. The bombing report describes the bombing as a major incident.  Husband Stephen and six other people also lost their lives. Nora and Stephen are buried together in a mass grave at East London Cemetery, Plaistow and are commemorated on the ‘Hackney Air Raid Casualties 1939-45’ plaque that is placed over the grave.
